The tragic accident involving the Latema Sacco bus occurred on Tuesday, October 7, along the road leading to Gatina.

Photos obtained by TUKO.co.ke captured a mammoth crowd gathered at the scene, with some individuals climbing onto the wreckage in desperate attempts to rescue trapped passengers.

The exact cause of the accident remains unknown, and authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.

Did Nairobi county respond to Waruku accident?

Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co.ke, Nairobi Environment Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria recounted receiving a distress call from a Waruku resident urgently requesting county ambulances due to the severity of the situation.

“Our County Emergency Ambulance Team responded immediately, and I personally visited the scene. It was a heartbreaking sight,” he said.

According to preliminary reports, more than 20 casualties were rescued and taken to nearby health facilities, while others were evacuated to different hospitals for treatment.

Mosiria urged all drivers to exercise extreme caution, emphasising the need to avoid speeding and reckless driving.

“Let us prioritise safety to prevent such tragic incidents,” he added.

Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Beatrice Elachi expressed deep sorrow following the tragic accident.

In a heartfelt statement, Elachi mourned the loss of hardworking parents who left home in the morning to provide for their families but tragically would not not return.

“My heart goes out to all the affected families during this painful moment,” she said.

She confirmed that rescue operations were still underway and extended prayers to those injured and rushed to hospital for treatment.

Elachi also conveyed her condolences to bereaved families, offering prayers for strength and healing.

Further, the MP commended medical personnel and local emergency responders for their swift and tireless efforts in saving lives and urged the community for uniting in support of those affected.

Boda rider, ex-wife killed in Kirinyaga crash

Elsewhere, a tragic road accident in Kirinyaga claimed the lives of a boda boda rider and his former wife.

The collision occurred along the Mwea–Embu Highway, reportedly involving a speeding saloon car that struck the motorbike and fled the scene.

Angry residents staged protests, blocking the road for several hours and preventing police from moving the bodies to the mortuary.

They demanded the immediate arrest of the car’s driver before allowing the bodies to be released. The standoff was eventually resolved after family members intervened, leading to the road being cleared.
