Reports indicated that Gideon had bowed out of the race.

KANU secretary general George Wainaina confirmed the decision to remove the candidacy.

The party will not field a candidate in the race, the secretary general said. It was not immediately stated why the independence party opted out of the by-election.

But some sources linked it to Moi’s apparent meeting with President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi.

The development came hours after Gideon failed to show up in Kabarnet to present his papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to be cleared to vie.
