Her body was discovered near Delamere Farm along the busy Nakuru–Nairobi Highway, drawing police and curious locals to the scene.
Initial police reports indicated that Wanjiru, aged 30, might have been subjected to sexual assault and murdered elsewhere before her body was dumped by the roadside.
The grim discovery was made by early-morning passersby heading to work, who noticed something lying beside the road and, upon checking, realized it was a woman’s body.
Officers from Naivasha Police Station and DCI detectives quickly arrived at the scene, cordoning off the area as they collected evidence.
How did Nakuru M-Pesa agent die?
Naivasha sub-county police commander Antony Keter confirmed that Wanjiru had been in the company of friends at an entertainment joint in Gilgil sub-county before her death.
Detectives have since begun tracing the individuals she was last seen with to help determine what happened that night.
Wanjiru, who hailed from Nyandarua county, was married to a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer. Her husband identified the body after being called in by police.
Investigators noted that her body did not have visible bruises or injuries, raising suspicion that she could have been poisoned.
“The body had no bruises; maybe she was poisoned. A postmortem will establish the cause of death, which is crucial to the ongoing investigation,” Keter said, adding that the case is being handled by DCI detectives.
Friends described Wanjiru as a humble and hardworking woman who had operated an M-Pesa kiosk in Naivasha for several years.
They said her sudden death had left the community in shock, as she had no known conflicts or disputes.
Wanjiru goes missing after meeting a stranger
A close friend who spoke anonymously told Nation that on Sunday, Wanjiru, who was also a mother of one, had left her house for a salon in Naivasha town to plait her hair.
While at the salon, she received several persistent calls from one number, pressuring her to meet.
After receiving repeated calls, she reportedly asked the stylist to let her leave, promising to return the next day to finish plaiting her hair. That was the last time she was seen alive.
“She left the salon to meet the person who kept calling. She never came back. Her body was found days later by the road. We plead with police to speed up investigations,” the friend said.
Her death has reignited fears among residents following a similar case in Nakuru months ago involving another M-Pesa agent who was found murdered.

What Happened to missing Nakuru M-Pesa attendant?
In May, the search for 27-year-old Hannah Waithera, another Nakuru M-Pesa attendant who had disappeared for over a week, ended tragically.
Her body was found at the Nakuru County Morgue, days after she vanished while running an errand to deposit KSh 250,000 into her employer’s bank account.
Family members said they were informed that her remains had been retrieved from a water trough within Technology Farm, a property linked to the Rift Valley National Polytechnic.
Relatives and friends flocked to the morgue to confirm her identity, as investigators began probing how she ended up there.
Later developments revealed that her husband, Zachariah Wambugu Wanjohi, was arrested and charged in connection with her disappearance and death.
