  • The apparent visit of KANU chairman Gideon Moi to State House has had twists ever since the news came out
  • Reports had indicated that the former Baringo senator called on President William Ruto, but the meet-up was kept a secret
  • KANU’s candidate for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat Tony Gachoka dismissed the meet-up reports, terming them “falsehoods”

Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Tony Gachoka has dismissed the assertions that KANU chairman Gideon Moi is warming up to President William Ruto’s camp.

Reports emerged that Ruto and Ruto met at State House on Wednesday, October 8, where they deliberated on a host of topics.

On top of the agenda, according to the reports, was the KANU leader stepping out of the Baringo senatorial race. But Gachoka dismissed the reports.

He said Moi was fixated on his presidential bid for 2027, arguing that meeting with Ruto would be politically suicidal for him. Neither is he a member of the United Opposition.

Gachoka added that his party leader would stick to his resolve to recapture the Baringo senatorial seat in the November 27 by-election.

“Gideon Moi must stand with the country, and he must stand in this by-election to be counted. Baringo contest for senatorial for Gideon Moi is not a win-or-lose issue. It’s an integrity issue because even today, the whole of social media has been peddling lies and falsehoods that Gideon Moi was seen at the State House, that Gideon was shaking the hand of William Ruto, and that Gideon Moi wants to meet Ruto. You know all these falsehoods come because he (Gideon) has decided that he wants to have a run at the presidency. He is not in the United Opposition. Because does not say things which are false,” said Tony Gachoka.

Gachoka was speaking in a TV47 interview on Wednesday evening, October 8.

On why his party leader is “reducing” himself to a senatorial seat instead of strategising for the presidential contest, Gachoka suggested that his leader was seeking to use the contest as the precursor for his ambition.

That the challenges faced by the natives and residents of Baringo cannot wait until 2027.

“The reason Gideon Moi is running for the senatorial seat in Baringo is because after sitting down and analysing the political developments of the country, he could not abandon the people of Baringo and the people of Kenya by seeming to sit out a difficult election. It is clear that everybody knows,” he said.
