Murkomen based his prediction on the latest move in which KANU chairman Gideon Moi seemed to align with Ruto.

What are the chances of Ruto’s opponents joining him?

Gideon called on Ruto at State House Nairobi, on Wednesday, October 8. The meeting was unforeseen, considering their political rivalry.

Murkomen prepared Kenyans to expect more of such.

According to him, by 2026, many politicians who were previously opposed to Ruto would be gravitating towards him after realising his re-election bid is too strong to fail.

“Everyone has come to realise that the president will go an extra term, after which others will have a chance in 2032. You will see many leaders, not just Gideon Moi, by next year will be joining the president in his government because they will have known that a single term is not enough for the president to complete his agenda,” Murkomen said.

He noted the trajectory was instituted by former prime minister and ODM leader Raila Odinga, who shelved his differences with Ruto to work together.

That sworn political rivals like Raila and Ruto could come together should be an indication of political possibilities that had been deemed unlikely.

“Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta came to Ruto. Many of those who did not support the president are currently on his side. This is an indication of what will happen in 2027. The leading message is to allow Ruto a second term to finish what he has started in the first term,” Murkomen said.

The CS noted that the coming of other leaders from across the divide would give the president an easy run in the vote.

Why Murkomen praised Gideon Moi

The CS further lauded Gideon for withdrawing from the Baringo senatorial race, noting that it would give other upcoming leaders a chance to flourish in politics.

He said the KANU chairman is too experienced to return to the Senate. He suggested Gideon should aim for such a bigger challenge as the presidency.

“He has made a wise decision. The UDA candidate is like Gideon’s son. It would be bad if he continued contesting the seat. When you reach a certain level in politics, you cede some posts for the young people, maybe due to the advancement in age and experience. So it was a wise decision to give up the race,” Murkomen said.

Meanwhile, the meeting between the president and the KANU chairman transcended the Baringo politics.

The two leaders deliberated on the matters pertinent to the nation.

Ruto said he had deliberately resolved to meet leaders and Kenyans from across the political divide to leverage their contributions to better the country.

The president noted that propelling Kenya to success would require efforts from all leaders who mean well for the country, regardless of their political leanings.

He said meeting Gideon was part of his effort to engage those with the ability to help the country, just like he met with Raila and his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.
