The attack angered onlookers who decided to intervene to help Maina from his attackers. In the process, the unidentified suspect fled on foot, as an angry mob chased after him.

In a clip shared online, he was captured shooting aimlessly at the mob as he ran to save his life. Tragically, while shooting, a bullet struck Muiruri in the chest, killing him.

“He has a gun, this guy is going to kill someone,” a voice can be heard in the background.

Amos Michael, who witnessed the entire incident unfold, said the two suspects were inside a car while the victim stood outside.

“They held a gun and were pointing it towards him. People present intervened, and that was the beginning of a fracas. The suspect alighted from the car with the gun and began shooting towards the sky,” said Amos.

Maina was shot shortly after, and efforts by the residents to rush him to the hospital were unsuccessful.

Did residents torch Farah’s car?

Angry residents torched the vehicle that the suspect and his partner used to get to the scene. Muiruri’s heartbroken brother, Francis Maina, revealed their pain and shock at what transpired.

He claimed the killing must have been planned because Farah called his brother for the deal.

“You call someone for business, he comes, and you kill him. This is someone who knew exactly what he was doing. We want to see this Farah, but the police are hiding him,” he said.

Enraged residents wanted to take justice into their own hands, but police quickly intervened and took Farah into custody, saving him from the mob.

According to a report by Citizen TV, Farah has been at the centre of an ongoing land tussle with the deceased.

Muiruri, who was the accountant of a community welfare group that sold land in the area, allegedly sold the disputed land to Farah. Years later, the rightful landowner emerged with proper documents claiming the land.

Farah was forced to pay a second time for the land because he had already developed it.

That is why he called Muiruri to demand part of his payment back, leading to a heated exchange that resulted in the fatal shooting incident.

Police have since launched investigations into the matter, seeking to get to the root of it, while Muiruri’s family seeks justice.
