The incident happened on Monday morning, October 13, at around 8.10am, when a 56-year-old man, Kithuka Kimunya, armed with a bow and arrows, attempted to force entry into the highly guarded compound.
According to the National Police Service, the deceased was Constable Ramadhan Mattanka, an only child of his parents.
“Despite being challenged to surrender, the suspect advanced on Police Constable Ramadhan Mattanka and shot him in the left ribs with an arrow,” said Muchiri Nyaga, NPS spokesperson.
What happened before Kimunya killed Ramadhan?
After being barred from entry, Kimunya retreated and hid behind vehicles undergoing inspection.
From his concealed position, he aimed and shot an arrow that struck Ramadhan in the left ribs. Despite efforts to save him, the officer succumbed to his injuries at Kenyatta National Hospital.
Kimunya, who claimed he was ‘sent by Satan’ was swiftly subdued and arrested by fellow GSU officers.
He is currently being held at Kilimani Police Station as investigations continue into the motive behind the attack.
What did Ramadhan’s family say?
Constable Ramadhan’s parents who had rushed to view the body at the mortuary, said the deceased left home after morning prayers with them.
They wished him well in his daily tasks hoping to meet him in the evening. Unfortunately, moments later, they received the heartbreaking news informing them of their only son’s death.
The service condemned the heinous act and commended the officers for their swift response, which prevented further harm.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late Constable Ramadhan Mattanka, who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. The officer’s next of kin have been notified, and the service stands in solidarity with them during this difficult time,” Muchiri said.
An investigation is ongoing to establish the motive behind the attack.
