The former prime minister reportedly died on the morning of Wednesday, October 15, in India, where he has been receiving treatment for an undisclosed short illness.
Details shared indicate he died of a cardiac arrest, which he suffered during a morning walk.

The clip shared by Oketch on Facebook showed a jovial Raila, having a meal while engaged in a hearty conversation with Oketch Salah, who had been keeping him company in India.
Oketch shared the video yesterday, Tuesday, October 14, saying he partook of lessons, laughter and wisdom with Raila during that meal.
“Breaking bread with Baba. Lessons, laughter and wisdom are on the table,” he caption the clip.
He did not reveal the exact words that the beloved politician told him, but from their demeanour and facial expressions, they were excited to be sharing the meal.
However, just a few hours after he posted the video, Oketch is now mourning the former prime minister.
“It’s with profound sorrow that I say goodbye to a FATHER, a FRIEND and a TEACHER. The moments we shared remain etched in my heart; you always promised to be well, smiling through storms and speaking hope even in pain. Baba, your spirit transcends the silence; your voice will forever echo in the hearts you nurtured. Rest peacefully, Jakom,” he sadly wrote.

A few days ago, Oketch also shared a photo which calmed the nerves of Raila’s supporters, who were apprehensive of his health.
Amidst rising speculations of Raila’s well-being, the photo left many feeling hopeful that he would recover and return to Kenya safe and sound.
In the photo, the 5-time presidential hopeful was in a blue shirt and appeared lively.
Senator shares last chats with Raila Odinga
As TUKO.co.ke earlier reported, an ODM senator also shared the last chats he had with Raila just a day before his death.
He revealed that he spoke with Raila for about seven minutes, not knowing it would be his last conversation with him.
“Yesterday you called me for seven minutes. You gave me a lot of instructions that I am still trying to make sense of. You told me to go on Ramogi TV, greet Onagi and tell them to speak in one voice. You told me to tell them to remain united. You told me you are coming back in the weekend and I must come to receive you. I did not know you were saying goodbye. I am lost!”
