Raila’s extended family members spoke during the late politician’s burial in Bondo, Siaya county.
What did Raila’s nephew say?
Wenwa’s son, Jaramogi Oranga, hilariously revealed that he was unprepared to speak about his uncle. He hilariously referenced Uhuru’s ‘uji.’
When Uhuru eulogised Raila at Nyayo Stadium, he made a special reference to moments they shared while drinking ‘uji.’
Oranga wished he had some of the uji to give him the courage to speak, admitting that he was not courageous.
He also funnily noted that he spoke because of his mother, not wanting trouble at home later on.
“I am Jaramogi Oranga, and if I knew I was going to speak, I would have asked Uhuru to give me the ‘uji’ he used to drink with Raila. Because now I can’t stand here and speak… to say the truth, I am fearful. I fear speaking to you all. I am sweating. But if I said no, my mum is here and I want to live until 80 years of age,” he said.
The young man eulogised Raila as a man who fought for democracy and was respected by all.
“I want to say that there is one person. Raila was one person you would love him or not you respected him. He gave us the ability to speak for ourselves, democracy. He was not a tribalist. Thank you, Baba, and thank you, auntie Ida,” he added.
