While speaking at Raila’s burial Service at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology on Sunday, October 19, Ruto narrated what happened after he received the news of his death.
The president said he first received the news of Raila’s death on early Wednesday morning through a WhatsApp message from Oburu Oginga, Raila’s eldest brother.

Moments after the message, Winnie called him and officially informed him that Raila was no more.
The head of state said as he was wrapping his head around the news, he then received a WhatsApp message from Raila Odinga Junior, informing him of his father’s will.
“He told me about Raila’s desire to be buried within 72 hours,” he recounted.
