During the burial of the late former ODM party leader in Bondo, Sifuna sharply differed with Governor Gladys Wanga on supporting President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid.
What did Sifuna say during Raila Odinga’s burial?
While Wanga and a section of ODM leaders from the Nyanza region vowed to stick with Ruto’s broad-based government.
“We have always followed Raila. The last instructions he left are for us to work with you (Ruto) under the broad-based government,” Wanga said.
Sifuna declared that the party will field a presidential candidate in honour of Raila’s last wishes.
“Raila used to listen to people. He was a listener to the people. I want to tell my fellow leaders in ODM that we should keep quiet and listen to the people. You tell us what you want us to do with the party of Raila,” Sifuna said on Sunday, October 19.
Taking to social media, Nandi senator Samson Cherargei criticised the Nairobi senator’s stand regarding the broad-based government.
Should Edwin Sifuna be kicked out of ODM?
Cherargei said it seemed only Sifuna had no instruction from the former prime minister regarding ODM supporting the broad-based government.
“The entire ODM leadership except Sifuna have confirmed that Baba Raila Odinga instructed them to stay & work with President Ruto administration under Broad based government,” Cherargei said.

According to Cherargei, Sifuna is a mole for the United Opposition in the ODM party.
“The biggest threat to the growth of ODM to be in government or forming government in the future is Sifuna & company. By the end of this year, 2025, he must be removed from ODM as the secretary General. He is the mole of the united opposition in ODM,” the UDA senator said.
