Mary opens up about her husband

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, the mum of four opened up on the twist and turn her life is facing as a single mother.

“After the death of my husband I have not been able to care for my young children. I do not have a job. My husband was doing everything for me and the kids but without him we have nothing. I could not be able to pay rent for the house we lived in and the landlord kicked us out. I have nowhere to lay my head to rest and my children also cannot go to school because their is no money. I am stranded. I have nowhere to seek help, no support system,” she said.

Mary has been trying to find employment, taking on menial jobs to survive and feed her family, but the little she earns is not enough.

Before being evicted from her rental house, she had been living in her husband’s home until his death.

Why was Mary kicked out?

“My in-laws told me there was no place for me in their home. They fought me and managed to kick me out of my husband’s house. I moved out unwillingly with my kids and started looking for a place to stay,” she said.

“I had not paid rent for four months because of the tough economic situation, which is part of the reason I was thrown out.”

She now relies on handouts from well-wishers whenever she cannot find work to feed her young children.

The children also need to go to school, but due to financial constraints, they have been forced to drop out.

Mary hoping to find employment

“If I struggle to feed them, how can I pay school fees? Even if I got some money, I would rather buy food than pay fees because that’s what’s important now,” she explained.

Mary is appealing to Kenyans to help her find a place to stay and, more importantly, a source of income to become independent.

She says she is tired of struggling as she watches her children suffer helplessly.

“I have walked, I have suffered, and I do not know what else to do. I don’t know what my children will eat. I am terrified for them,” she said.
