Kisii: The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has announced the confiscation of counterfeit alcohol worth KSh 1.2 million.

According to the authority, the operation was part of a direct implementation of the ongoing Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) that works against drugs and substance abuse.

The Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, recently announced the move.

NACADA stated that the operation, which was conducted on Wednesday, October 22, was a result of meticulous planning.

How did NACADA seize liquor worth KSh 1.2m

Officers from the authority worked in collaboration with officers from the National Police Service and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

The raid worked to target a network that was distributing counterfeit alcohol and a trade that was identified for having a devastating impact on the youth in the Keumbu area.

During the crackdown, the officers managed to confiscate products which included popular but counterfeit brands that posed severe health risks to consumers.

Speaking of the matter, the NACADA Chief Executive Officer, Anthony Omerikwa that the recent raid symbolised the authority’s commitment to the Rapid Results Initiative.

“This operation in Kisii is not an isolated event. It is a targeted action under the broader, sustained Rapid Results Initiative against the scourge of drugs and illicit alcohol, as championed by the Interior CS. Our message to those peddling these poisonous substances is unequivocal: we are coming for you,” Omerikwa declared.

NACADA issues stern warning against drugs

Omerikwa further issued a stern warning against the use of drugs, asserting that NACADA will not relent in its fight.

“As we notice an alarming uptick in substance abuse nationwide, our resolve only strengthens. This crackdown will continue unabated. We will pursue every lead, dismantle every network, and ensure that our communities are safe from this threat,” he affirmed.

He further affirmed that the case was handed over to the relevant agencies for comprehensive investigations and subsequent prosecution of the suspects who were involved in the matter.

NACADA has called on the public to support the reporting of illegal activities that were related to drug and substance abuse.

Major drug network busted in Kisumu

In a previous incident, NACADA led a multi-agency security operation conducted in Maseno, which disrupted a drug distribution ring that was accused of supplying drugs to university students.

The authority carried out the operation on the afternoon of October 21 in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the National Police Service.
