What is NYOTA?
The NYOTA (National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement) grant is a KSh 5 billion youth empowerment programme jointly funded by the government and the World Bank.
It is designed to empower 100,000 young Kenyans, about 70 from each of the country’s 1,450 wards, with KSh 50,000 in startup capital after short-term vocational training in fields such as carpentry, tailoring, welding, and other trades.
Unlike a loan, the NYOTA grant is non-repayable and is designed to equip jobless and vulnerable youth with both skills and financial support to start small enterprises.

Notably, the government said that individuals who defaulted on Hustler Fund loans will not qualify for the grant until they clear their debts.
The verification exercise was initially postponed following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President William Ruto’s declaration of a national mourning period.
The Ministry has assured applicants that all prior submissions remain valid and that the verification process will proceed as planned this Friday.
