Wilson Wambugu said his troubles started a couple of years ago after a fallout with a cousin of the family who had employed him as a shamba boy in Nyeri.

Speaking to Simon Kibe’s Jamba TV, Wambugu said his feud with the said cousin started when he declined to buy him some booze.

“I was getting KSh 6,000 as the salary, and I was using about KSh 5,000 for my mum’s medicines, while the remaining KSh 1,000 was for my own personal effects. And that is why I could not buy him the drinks that he wanted. I told him I could buy him a cup of tea, but he insisted he wanted alcohol,” the inmate alleged.

The prisoner claimed his refusal to buy the man some booze sparked a feud that culminated in his arrest later that day, and the subsequent imprisonment for 80 years.

“After I said I could not afford it, he told me that I would face the music. And that evening, he came, accompanied by police officers and accused me of hurting his teenage cousins sexually. The said victims, however, vehemently denied that I hurt them because I did not even know them or their names, because I was just a shamba boy,” he claimed.

The convict alleged that the three teenagers were coerced into giving false testimonies against him, but they kept on insisting that it was all a lie.

He was later arrested on account of those accusations and was slapped with an 80-sentence in July 2025, and his next taste of freedom is in 2076.

“I did not do it. Even the victims said I did not do it. I am innocent,” he claimed.

The 27-year-old Gen-Z man said that since his imprisonment a few months ago, he is not sure if he will manage to get to 2076.

“It is tough in here. To think that I am supposed to be here till 2076 breaks me. Even most of the family members do not know that I am in prison. It is very difficult,” he added.

Wambugu said he has met all manner of people in the prisons, others convicted of similar crimes like him.

“I will leave jail when I am 81 years old. How will I make it through? My whole life will be here. I tried to even plead with the judge because I knew I am innocent,” he added.
