The family of the late veteran broadcaster Sammy Lui has finally shared the funeral plans of their kin, who passed away on Thursday, October 23.

Lui, a former state master of ceremonies, was mourned by Kenyans who admired his skill and expertise in his role.

In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, a close source stated that Lui had moved to Subukia, Nakuru county.

The source stated that Lui had faced personal struggles after his home in Woodley Estate, Nairobi, was demolished in 2024.

This forced him to move to Subukia, where he spent his final days.

When will Sammy Lui be laid to rest?

According to a report by Citizen Digital, unlike the normal burial, where the body of the deceased is interred, Lui’s body will be cremated.

The former state master of ceremonies’ body will be transferred from Nakuru, where he lived, to the Lee Funeral Home in the country’s capital, Nairobi.

This will take place on Saturday, October 25, ahead of a prayer meeting scheduled for Sunday, October 26, at his family’s home, starting at 2 pm

Thereafter, on Monday, October 27, friends and family will gather at the Lee Funeral Home for the viewing of Lui’s body and a prayer ceremony.

The deceased’s body will then be taken to the Kariokor Crematorium, where he will be cremated.

Lui’s family stated that a brief service will be held before the cremation. The time for the actual process has not been announced, but the family promised to make it public later.

Sammy Lui’s career background

Lui pioneered the Kenya Broadcasting English Service, in which he showcased his prowess and command of the English language.

He was also among the founding anchors of the Kenya Television Network (KTN), thus playing a part in shaping the country’s political landscape.

During its formative years, Lui worked in the media outlet’s studios and served as the director of presidential events during the late former president Mwai Kibaki’s regime.

His voice was a regular at state events. Following his role at the State House MC, he presided over many national holidays, parades and official events, which garnered him respect from the political class.

Following Lui’s death, President William Ruto joined Kenyans in mourning the veteran broadcaster.

He took to his social media platforms to pay an emotional tribute to Lui, terming him one of the most respected State Master of Ceremonies.

While citing Lui’s impressive track record, Ruto stated that the broadcaster’s prowess in his field impressed those who listened and wanted to be like him.

He further concluded his message by condoling with the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.
