According to the headteacher, her Grade 7 pupil, Naomy Awot Eyengyeng, has been battling a heart condition since when she was in Grade Three.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Lynda, the headteacher, said that the young girl recently underwent a successful surgery, and after contributions from SHA and a well-wisher, the family was left struggling to pay a balance of KSh 321k.
“The total cost of the surgery was about KSh 1.7m. SHA paid about KSH 900,000, and a doctor also helped the family clear some of the balance. What remained was KSh 321k, which the family could not raise,” she said.
The headteacher said the mother of the Grade 7 girl approached her and pleaded with her to rally support for the young girl.
“I remember she told me, ‘please find a way to help my daughter come back home’. Since then, I have carried this burden with the hope that we can raise enough funds to bring back the Grade 7 girl home,” she added.
The headteacher noted that she could not wait for the young girl to return home and fully recuperate since she had been ill for the past four years with endless hospital visits.
“I urge anyone with the means and will to help us raise these funds for Naomi’s successful surgery. Her family is unable to raise this amount of money on its own,” she said.
She further thanked the Muserech community, which has stood by Naomi and her family as she battled the condition.
“The surgery was successful, and once she is discharged from the hospital, she will be able to return to school and resume her studies,” the headteacher added.
Kenyan mum seeks help for ailing daughter
In other news, a Kenyan mother also asked kind people to help her raise KSh 3 million for her 12-year-old daughter’s urgent surgery.
Winnie narrated that her daughter, Nicolina Njeri, was born in 2012, one month before her due date, and started developing health complications four days after her birth.
Winnie told TUKO.co.ke that four days after her baby Nicolina, was born, she started having trouble breathing and was taken to the hospital.
“She was on and off the hospital from one doctor to another in a different hospital, since one doctor would see her more than 5 times in a month and could send her for more investigations to know why the baby is not improving after the treatment, and it became a medical norm,” the mum said.
