Kiambu man speaks after fire kills boy
Residents were shattered as one of them recalled being with the boy’s father before the fire broke out.
“I was with the father when the incident happened. We received information that his house was on fire. We rushed to the scene and found many people there. It was already too late, the house had burned completely, along with everything in it. The child, who was inside, was burned to death. It looked like he was hiding. The family has nothing left; everything has been destroyed,” said Kinyanjui Njogu.

Kiambu woman’s appeal to government
“As we came from the funeral with the family, we saw smoke. I ran as fast as I could and was the first to raise the alarm. Other residents swiftly responded to my screams and came to the scene. Unfortunately, there was a shortage of water, and we could not do much. We were heartbroken when we heard there was a child inside the house. A few young men came, but there was no water.
I appeal to our county to address the issue of water shortage because if we had enough water, the young men would have put out the fire. I also urge parents to be vigilant and take good care of their children during this time,” Njenga said.
Another resident, also named Wairimu, said poor road infrastructure delayed the arrival of firefighters and urged the government to address the matter.
Njogu appealed to well-wishers to support the bereaved family, which had lost everything and been rendered homeless.
