The MP said to be eying the Kakamega gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, has now come out to accuse Barasa of riding on projects funded by the national government and corporates, in his constituency.

Which projects is Barasa claiming credit for in Khwisero?

He named Khwisero-Khumailo Road, which was constructed by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) and Safaricom-funded maternity wing at Mulwanda Dispensary, as among those the governor claims to have funded.

According to the legislator, there is no single project that the current Kakamega county government has initiated in Khwisero.

“He has not done anything in my constituency. He must go home,” Aseka said on Sunday, October 26.

The MP claimed locals in the constituency are suffering due to, among other things, poor roads and ill-equipped Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres. He told the locals to vote out the county boss in the upcoming general election.

He also claimed Barasa’s administration has sidelined Khwisero constituency in development projects despite his role in his election in 2022.

“Barasa is one term. He has isolated us in terms of development but he is busy riding on other people’s projects,” Aseka claimed.

Has Fernandes Barasa sidelined Khwisero constituency?

The governor, however, dismissed the MP’s claim that he was taking credit for projects he did not fund.

Barasa said that as a county, they have always partnered with various organisations, including Safaricom, in financing projects.

He also dismissed claims that he had sidelined the Khwisero constituency.

“We as a county have always tried to ensure every sub-county, including Khwisero, gets a fair share of development projects,” Barasa said.

He also noted that the county is constructing modern ECDEs in all public primary schools.

Is Oparanya still influential in Kakamega?

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that Aseka had cautioned Kakamega politicians against attacking former governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

The legislator noted that anyone against the Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary was building his/her political grave.

According to Aseka, Oparanya still has a huge following in the county and the potential to decide its political direction.

The CS has, in recent months, fallen out with several leaders in the county, including Governor Barasa, who accused him of dividing ODM members in the county. Senator Boni Khalwale is also not on good terms with Oparanya over his alleged preference for Elsie Muhanda to vie for the Kakamega gubernatorial seat in 2027.
