Who attended Abdinoor Oketch’s wedding?

The Nikah ceremony was held in observance of the Islamic rites. It involved both dowry negotiations and the wedding.

In attendance were ranking luminaries, among them Siaya senator Oburu Oginga and Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi.

“Today at Serena Hotel in Nairobi, we gathered as family and friends to witness a beautiful union; my son Abdinoor Oketch Salah and his lovely bride Isra Ibrahim Hamza began their journey together in marriage. We were deeply honoured by the presence of our leaders and friends, Hon Oburu Odinga and Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, among other distinguished guests who joined us in celebrating this special day. The groom was dressed in a traditional white thobe accessorised with a regal black and white headscarf.

His father and guests wore simple white kanzus, which appeared to be made of satin material.

Being a solemn and spiritually significant Islamic occasion, the bride attended the ceremony but was not publicly showcased.

Salah rose to public attention during the sunset days of the late Raila Odinga.

Who is Oketch Salah?

Prior to the deceased ODM leader’s illness, Salah, an entrepreneur, had largely remained out of the spotlight.

While addressing guests at the wedding, Senator Oburu commended Salah for his selfless dedication to offering care to Raila, adding that he had become more than a close friend, being embraced as one of the deceased’s children.

The senator noted that Salah accompanied Raila throughout his medical treatment in both Dubai and India, having been entrusted with the responsibility of caring for Raila during the vulnerable moments leading up to his death.

“Oketch Salah was a great friend and a son of Raila Odinga. They were together in Kenya, in Dubai and even in India. He left me here to go take care of Raila while in the hospital. He looked after Raila until the last minute,” Oburu said.

With Raila dead, Oburu expressed his intention to welcome Salah into the Odinga family and make him one of his sons.

“Raila is now gone. I will inherit him as my son, and we are going to cooperate in many things as a family,” the senator said.

At the same time, Oburu addressed the political climate within ODM, urging members to remain calm amid the tough 2027 talk as factions hold onto their respective hard stances.

Will ODM back Ruto in 2027?

He hinted at the party’s potential alignment with President William Ruto’s re-election bid in the 2027 vote.

As the interim party leader, Oburu noted that Raila had left ODM in the broad-based government, a position he affirmed would be upheld through the next electoral cycle.

Oburu was picked by the ODM national executive committee to succeed Raila, who died on October 15.

He will hold the post in an interim capacity until the party’s National Governing Council (NGC) finds the substantive leader.

Before his death, Raila had been categorical that ODM would partner with Ruto until 2027. He was not clear on whether the party would rally behind Ruto in the oncoming vote.

Raila succumbed to heart-related complications in an Indian hospital where he was rushed after collapsing during a morning walk.

He was laid to rest at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, near the mausoleum housing his father’s grave.
