The ChatGPT Go package costs about $5 (approximately KSh 665) per month in Kenya.
This is significantly more affordable compared to the ChatGPT $20 ‘plus’ plan and the $200 premium package.
What are the features of ChatGPT Go?
ChatGPT Go offers an expanded experience compared to the free version.
It gives extended access to GPT-5, image generation, file uploads, data analysis tools like Python, longer memory for contextual conversations, and customisable projects and tasks at a lower monthly cost.
However, API usage and access to connectors, legacy models such as GPT-4o, and the Sora video creation tool are excluded and can only be accessed under tier packages.
The rollout is currently restricted to select regions, including Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, and Morocco in Africa, as well as India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and others across Asia and Latin America.
OpenAI said that access will expand gradually to ensure a smooth user experience in other markets.
Subscriptions are billed monthly and can be managed or cancelled through the ChatGPT app or website.
The launch of ChatGPT Go, coupled with the phased introduction of Sora, marks OpenAI’s next step in broadening access to generative AI technology, particularly in emerging markets seeking affordable entry points into advanced AI ecosystems.
ChatGPT Go was first piloted in India in August at ₹399 ($4.60) per month, integrating local payment methods like UPI. It has since expanded to other countries across the globe.

OpenAI launches Atlas search browser
In other news, OpenAI unveiled a new AI-powered search browser called Atlas, marking a direct challenge to Google Chrome.
According to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Atlas integrates ChatGPT as its core engine, allowing users to perform web searches using an intelligent “agent mode” that can independently browse the internet and return summarised results.
Although the basic version is free, advanced features like agent mode are limited to ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers.
OpenAI’s growing ecosystem, including tools that connect ChatGPT to popular apps like Spotify and Booking.com, is expected to strengthen its position as a major player in the evolving generative AI landscape.
