Bondo: The family of the late Raila Odinga now boasts a new member after his widow, Ida, adopted a young Turkana girl who shares her name.

The strikingly beautiful girl travelled all the way to Opoda Farm to mourn her hero, meet the woman whose name she carries, Min Piny Mama Ida Odinga, and to whisper her condolences.

“Fate smiled through tears, the two Ida Odingas, one seasoned by life and one just beginning hers met eye to eye. Mama Ida seeing her young self in the brave young girl, got moved by the purity of the moment, opened her arms, her heart and home for her,” said Jaramogi Allan Ofula on Facebook.

“Min Piny has adopted the young girl as her own and now the young Ida is the last born of the Odinga Family. She’ll live under Min Piny’s roof and care until she dies,” he added.

As they interacted more, Ida promised to nurture the teen’s dreams, sponsor her education and her journey ahead, writing another beautiful story at the heart of Odinga’s legacy, a powerful story of love, unity and destiny.

“Sometimes grief plants the seeds of new beginnings. The young girl travelled from Turkana to Bondo to mourn her fallen hero and meet the woman she’s named after, but that single journey has now changed the destiny and course of her life forever. Earth is happy!” said Ofula.
