In the Monday, October 27, evening tragedy, the lorry ploughed into a group of boda boda operators at Ichuni Junction along the Keroka–Masimba Road.
The accident turned the usually busy junction into a scene of horror as residents and motorists rushed to help the injured.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic and confusion as wailing residents tried to pull victims from beneath the wreckage.
Motorcycles lay scattered across the road, their twisted frames a grim reminder of the severity of the collision.
The accident also caused a major traffic snarl-up along the busy Keroka–Masimba Road, as police cordoned off the area to allow emergency workers to clear the debris and tow away the wrecked vehicles.
How did Keroka–Masimba Road crash happen?
According to police reports, the lorry was heading towards Masimba when its driver lost control, veered off the road, and rammed into several motorcycle riders who were waiting for passengers at the junction.
The impact was so severe that some victims died on the spot while others sustained life-threatening injuries.
Kisii County Traffic Enforcement Officer Richard Kipkemoi confirmed the incident, saying that rescue operations began immediately after the crash.
“The driver of the lorry carrying molasses lost control and veered off the road before ramming into boda boda operators. Scores have been rushed to Keroka Sub-County Hospital for urgent medical attention,” he stated.
Emergency response teams, including police officers and members of the public, have been combing through the wreckage in an attempt to rescue survivors trapped beneath the mangled motorcycles.

The bodies of the deceased were later moved to the Keroka Sub-County Hospital morgue for identification and postmortem examination.
Heavy truck rams into pedestrians in Kericho
Elsewhere, a heavy-duty trailer heading toward Kericho lost control and crashed into several matatus, boda boda riders, and pedestrians at the busy Londiani Junction.
Witnesses said the trailer, which was reportedly speeding downhill, rammed into vehicles and motorcycles waiting by the roadside.
The impact left a trail of destruction, with wreckage scattered across the highway. Initial reports indicated that more than 45 people were feared dead, while several others sustained serious injuries.
Many victims were trapped under the trailer and inside mangled vehicles as rescuers struggled to pull them out.
Police and rescue teams from the Kenya Red Cross and the county government rushed to the scene.
They ferried the injured to nearby hospitals, including the Kericho County Referral Hospital.
The local deputy police commander confirmed that rescue efforts continued late into the night as they searched for survivors.
Kericho Governor Erick Mutai expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and sent condolences to the bereaved families.
