A mausoleum is a grand or notable structure that contains a tomb or multiple tombs. TUKO.co.ke listed some of the Kenyans, from politicians to TikTok influencers, who are buried in mausoleums.
1. Jaramogi Oginga Odinga

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga’s mausoleum in Bondo features two lion statues and was inaugurated by Nigeria’s General Olusegun Obasanjo.
Visitors enter through an intricately carved wooden door. Inside, another lion sculpture marks Jaramogi’s resting place.
The floor is white with black highlights, and multiple lights illuminate the space. One wall displays a quote from Jaramogi reading, “Freedom has a price,” alongside a section showcasing historical photographs of him.

2. Jomo Kenyatta

The Jomo Kenyatta Mausoleum, made of marble and heavily guarded, stands next to Nairobi’s Parliament Buildings as the final resting place of Kenya’s first president.
Public access is limited and requires prior arrangements, though visitors can view it during the annual commemoration of Kenyatta’s death.
The site is an important national monument and is protected by the Kenya Defence Forces.
3. Baba Mona

TikToker Thomas Oselu, popularly known as Baba Mona, tragically died in a road accident in February 2024, along with his daughter Monalisa and two sisters, while travelling from Nairobi to Kisumu.
Except for one sister, the family was buried together in a specially constructed mausoleum, featuring a modern black roof and multiple windows.
A paved walkway leads to the mausoleum.
Inside, black tiles mark the graves, and multiple windows provide abundant natural light. Several seats are arranged around the graves, allowing family members to sit, reflect, and remember their time together.
4. George Oduor

George Oduor, Raila Odinga’s former bodyguard, died in April after a three-week stay in the ICU.
Oduor was laid to rest in a serene mausoleum featuring cream-colored walls, white marble floors with grey veining, recessed lighting, and a central plaque displaying his name, dates, and portrait.
The mausoleum reflects the respect he earned as both a protector and a trusted friend of the Odinga family.
What was Raila’s diagnosis in Dubai?
In other news, Kasmuel McOure drew criticism after discussing Raila’s health publicly. He recounted Raila’s 2010 hospitalisation after a head injury that caused headaches, fatigue, and weakness, requiring a neurosurgical procedure to relieve pressure and clean the brain.
Kasmuel also revealed that Raila’s signature cap was worn to cover a forehead scar.
More recently, during a visit to King’s College Hospital in Dubai, doctors discovered a concerning issue at the back of his head.
Surgery was deemed too risky, and he was prescribed medication with regular monitoring. Many Kenyans condemned Kasmuel for sharing these personal medical details.
