A quiet birthday celebration turned into a heartbreaking tragedy after a 52-year-old mother and her 21-year-old daughter lost their lives from what police believe was a poisoned cake.

Ana Maria de Jesus and her daughter, Larissa de Jesus Castilho, reportedly became violently ill after eating a slice of cake that had been delivered to them by a relative’s husband.
Where did mother, daughter get cake?
The Mirror reports that the cake, meant to be a kind gesture following a family birthday, quickly turned fatal.
Details indicate that Ana Maria had missed the family celebration the day before because she was unwell.
The next afternoon, her niece’s husband, identified as Leonardo, arrived on his motorbike and delivered a piece of cake for her.
Unaware of the danger, Ana Maria ate it and soon began experiencing severe symptoms.
Police suspect deaths linked to money
In distress, she phoned her daughter Larissa, who rushed to her mother’s home and took her to São Paulo’s Heliopolis Hospital.
Ana Maria was placed on a ventilator but did not survive. Larissa, who also ate a piece of the same cake, later fell ill and died as well.
Preliminary toxicology tests revealed the presence of pesticides in both women’s bodies, prompting authorities to treat the case with suspicion.
Investigators have since called for the arrest of Leonardo and his wife, Patricia, Ana Maria’s niece, who were reportedly in debt to the deceased.
Police sources said Ana Maria had a history of lending money to Patricia and Leonardo, a financial link that may have turned deadly.
Detectives make shocking discovery
Detectives later discovered troubling internet searches on Leonardo’s phone, including queries such as “Heart attack causes convulsions.”
Around the same time, Ana Maria herself had searched online for “Intoxication from cleaning product,” suggesting she was already feeling unwell and trying to understand her symptoms.
The São Paulo Secretariat of Public Security confirmed that his officers are investigating the deaths.
“All necessary forensic examinations have been requested, and the evidence will determine the next steps,” the statement said.
The shocking case has left the Ipiranga neighborhood in disbelief, a family torn apart, allegedly over money, and two innocent lives lost to what was meant to be a simple act of sharing cake.
