A Kenyan woman has shared her distress after accidentally sending KSh 99,000 to the wrong number.

The lady, Marion, tried calling the man she mistakenly sent the money to several times, but he didn’t pick up.

She then sent him a text message, asking for a refund and even offered him KSh 9,000 as a reward for his honesty.

“Hello, we mistakenly sent you KSh 99,000 on Saturday. I kindly ask that you refund me KSh 90,000 before this becomes a police matter. Thank you,” the message read.

The man didn’t respond to her message or return her calls.

Feeling devastated by the situation, Marion sent another message, urging him not to ignore her request, as she had already involved the authorities to handle the matter.

She also texted him on WhatsApp, asking why he decided to keep the entire amount that didn’t belong to him, despite her offer to reward him for his kindness.

Instead of cooperating, the man asked where Marion was located in Nairobi. She replied that she was in Rongai.

He then removed his profile picture on the social media platform, but luckily, Marion had already taken a screenshot of it.

“Will you return the money willingly? Removing the photo won’t help, as we already have it. All the best,” she wrote.

In another post, Marion shared a photo of the suspect in handcuffs, showing that he had been apprehended by the police.

“I hope I’ll now get KSh 140,000. He thought he was unreachable. The police have restored my faith in them. Moving forward, I will no longer bother God with battles I can fight; I’ll leave the bigger matters to Him,” she shared, feeling relieved.

Netizens react after woman sends money to wrong number

Netizens reacted with outrage at the recipient’s actions, with many expressing sympathy for Marion and condemning the suspect for refusing to return the money.

“Marion Wanjiru Mwangi Shiro, what can I do in a case of money sent to the wrong paybill? The recipient claims to have expected such a payment and refuses to return it?”

“This one didn’t think it through. A free 9k, but greed got the better of him! Let him now enjoy the ‘free government cabbage’.”

“I’d send 80k, give you 19k, and tell you to help me with my problems. I’m sure you wouldn’t have refused.”

“He didn’t stop to think that someone who can afford 99k could easily pay the police to get him from wherever he hides, even Timbuktu! Now he’ll pay double.”

In similar news, TUKO.co.ke reported that a businessman named Mustapha Hassan accidentally sent money to the wrong number.

The frustrated man said the money was meant for his gardener, but he missed a digit, sending it to one Sabina Kagwiria.

Despite the woman initially agreeing to return the cash, less KSh 2,000 ,which had been deducted by a Fuliza loan, she failed to do so.
