- Eliud Kipchoge will make his debut at the New York Marathon on November 2 in what could be his last race
- The two-time Olympic champion will headline the event alongside Kenenisa Bekele and women’s Olympic champion, Sifan Hassan
- We have done a brief preview of the race, including Kipchoge’s potential last dance, the elite field and the prize money at stake
That Eliud Kipchoge has never competed in New York for a decorated and widely-travelled athlete like himself is mind-boggling.

However, all that will change when he takes to the streets of the Big Apple in the 54th edition of the New York Marathon this Sunday.
Eliud Kipchoge’s record at Marathon Majors
Kipchoge will line up in New York, seeking to complete all seven major marathons in what is likely to be his last marathon major after 12 years.
He has competed and won five times in Berlin, won four times in London, once each in Tokyo and Chicago, finished sixth in Boston and most recently, finished 9th in Sydney.
“November, and it’s New York. It’s a place that has been on my mind for a long time. It’s time for me to go there and get a Seven Star [award] before embarking on my new journey of running for other things; running for a purpose,” he told Olympics.com.

Who is Kipchoge competing against in New York?
His recent results might suggest that the 40-year-old won’t be a favourite to win the race, but his pedigree speaks for itself.
The two-time Olympic champion will be up against his rival, the third-fastest man in history, Kenenisa Bekele, who is also approaching the homestretch of his career.
2024 London marathon champion Alexander Munyao, the reigning champion Abdi Nageeye and 2024 Tokyo champion Benson Kipruto are among the heavy hitters listed for this race.
Women’s marathon New York 2025

Hassan will face competition from the formidable Kenyan duo of Sharon Lokedi and Hellen Obiri.
Eliud Kipchoge slams Ruth Chepng’etich
In a separate story, Kipchoge blasted Ruth Chepng’etich after the women’s marathon world record holder was found guilty of doping.
Chepng’etich has since been handed a three-year ban after a masking substance was found in her sample.
The 2019 world champion set the world record when she competed in Chicago last year.
