Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Samuel Ochieng’ revealed that he owed the landlord KSh 6,000, which was one month’s rent.
He explained that he was not at home when the landlord took off the iron sheets, leaving his wife and children exposed to the cold.
Why Samuel Ochieng’ had not paid rent
“I am an Uber driver, but I don’t have my own car at the moment, so I had left home to look for one when all this happened. It’s been a tough month, and my income is very little,” he said.
In a video captured by his son, Ochieng’s wife can be seen emptying basins already filled with rainwater to prevent the room from flooding.
After sharing the video online through a Facebook blogger, Ochieng’ claimed that the landlord became furious and disconnected the electricity to his house at night, leaving them in the cold and dark.
“The man showed no remorse. I only owe him one month’s rent, and he even has the deposit I paid when I rented the house. I don’t understand why he was so brutal towards us,” said the father of six.

Where did Kayole family sleep?
Following the news of his predicament, kind-hearted Kenyans on social media contributed money, which allowed him to secure another house on the night of Wednesday, October 29.
He shared that it was too cold for his family, especially his young children, to sleep without a roof over their heads.
Moreover, Ochieng’ explained that his plight was reported to the local chief, who acted swiftly.
He mentioned that the landlord had been summoned by the chief but had yet to respond to the inhumane act.
The father of six said he has been struggling to make ends meet and provide for his family. He also appealed for help to get a car, as he is familiar with the taxi business and is actively searching for one.
“My firstborn daughter finished Form Four, and I haven’t yet gathered enough funds to send her to college. I hope everything will fall into place soon,” he said.

Why was Eldoret woman with baby stranded?
TUKO.co.ke also reported that a young woman from Eldoret called for financial support after she was stranded, lacking money to pay rent.
Flavian Chepkemboi explained that she had not paid one month’s rent due to the time she spent in hospital after giving birth.
Chepkemboi had faced complications during childbirth, which forced her to stay in the hospital for over a month.
Her husband abandoned her, and she was forced to use her savings to cover medical bills, leaving her with no money to settle the rent.
