Victor Kemboi, who had been living with his parents in Saika, Nairobi, disappeared under unclear circumstances, prompting his family to file a missing person report after his phone went off the day following his disappearance.
When was Victor Kemboi’s body discovered?
On October 10, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) contacted the family with devastating news: Kemboi’s body had been discovered in the Nairobi Forest, Karen.
His identity was confirmed through personal items found at the scene, including his student ID and books.
“The first person they tried to question refused to come forward after realising it was the DCI detectives who were asking for them. DCI officers called us and showed us his ID and books and asked if we recognised him. That’s when we were told he was the person found dead in the forest,” said Prisca Limo, Kemboi’s mother.
Kemboi’s father expressed deep grief, describing his son as a bright student who was set to graduate at the end of the year.
“There was a particular part of his trousers that was torn. Some hair was also missing. I am so traumatised and do not know even how to explain. Our son had a bright future, and somebody has just cut his life short. He was ready to graduate maybe at the end of the year,” his father emotionally revealed.
Detectives recovered a bottle labeled ‘carbon nitrate’ near the body, which may aid in the ongoing investigation.

What killed Victor Kemboi?
The DCI investigators found the body had already decomposed, making it hard to determine the cause of death.
Government pathologist Bernard Midia recommended a toxicology analysis to determine the cause of death, noting that decomposition and prior autopsy procedures might complicate the findings.
“With repeated autopsies, so many things might have happened during the decomposition processes, also the interference with tissues during previous autopsies, so we still have to sit down and bring all these together,” said Midia.
The family is now demanding answers, especially regarding the boda boda rider who was allegedly last seen with Kemboi but is yet to provide a statement to police.
Questions also linger over how the body remained undetected in a guarded forest for nearly a month, despite the strong odour typically associated with decomposition.
Where was Jane Atila’s body found?
In other news, the decomposed body of Jane Atila, who was reported missing at the Kikuyu Police Station on October 13, was discovered dumped in a thicket within Kefri Muguga Forest.
DCI officers recovered the remains on October 17, ten days after she was last seen.
According to the family, the condition of the body was deeply disturbing—most of the flesh was gone, the left leg was severely damaged, and the skull was found detached, showing signs of violence.
She was discovered shortly after her family received ransom calls for KSh 2,500 from unknown individuals.
