His family confirmed that he rested on Monday night, November 3, 2025, at the age of 84.

What caused Dick Cheney’s death?

A statement shared by BBC News revealed that the former leader had complications from pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease.

At the time of his demise, Cheney was surrounded by his 61-year-old wife, Lynne, and their daughters, Liz and Mary, along with other family members.

Cheney served in various government roles including White House chief of staff, congressman for Wyoming, secretary of Defence, and vice president under retired president George W. Bush.

Widely regarded as a deeply influential figure in American politics, Cheney was known for his steadfast leadership and commitment to national security.

In a statement, his family described him as ‘a great and good man’ who instilled in his children and grandchildren a love for country and values of courage, honour, kindness, and fly fishing.

They expressed profound gratitude for his contributions to the nation and the love he shared with his family.

“We are grateful beyond measure for all Dick Cheney did for our country. And we are blessed beyond measure to have loved and been loved by this noble giant of a man,” the statement read.

How did George Bush mourn Dick Cheney?

Former president George W. Bush paid tribute, calling Cheney a patriot who brought integrity, high intelligence, and seriousness of purpose to every position he held.

Bush recalled Cheney’s calm and steady presence during times of national challenge and praised his loyalty, judgment, and character.

“I’m still grateful that he was at my side for the eight years that followed. Cheney was a calm and steady presence in the White House amid great national challenges. I counted on him for his honest, forthright counsel, and he never failed to give his best.

For those two terms in office, and throughout his remarkable career, Cheney’s service always reflected credit on the country he loved. Cheney’s love for America was second only to his family,” Bush said, extending condolences to the bereaved family.
