The Sunday, November 2, incident occurred during the 10th anniversary celebration of the Voice of Praise Adventist Singers in the ministry and the official launch of their foundation.
Why was Geoffrey Mosiria booed?
While speaking, Mosiria urged attendees to enroll in the Social Health Authority (SHA) insurance scheme, citing a recent accident at the venue as a reminder of the importance of coverage.

However, his remarks were met with resistance, and the booing intensified, forcing him to cut his speech short.
“Yesterday, we had an accident; please make sure you get insurance under SHA. It will help you… listen to me… church, listen to me… you do not want to?” Mosiria posed as the crowd grew increasingly hostile.
The incident unfolded in the presence of former Interior Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i, pastors, and invited guests, including gospel singers from Rwanda.

Matiang’i, who received a warm welcome and applause, later addressed the congregation and offered pointed advice to Mosiria.

“You got a referendum here on SHA. Go and tell those wonderful people to do the right thing. We are in church and before God. We cannot engage in lies. These are the people who receive the services, and they are talking back to you, saying the services don’t exist.
Do the right thing in the eyes of the Lord. Give services to the people. A day will come when we will face judgment. What will you say?” Matiang’i asked.
Despite the controversy, Mosiria has been widely recognised for his efforts in improving Nairobi’s cleanliness and responding to emergencies across the city.
His work has earned praise from many residents, though the SHA debate continues to stir public reactions across the country.
Is Geoffrey Mosiria facing sentencing?
Meanwhile, Mosiria failed to appear before the Environment and Lands Court for mitigation ahead of his sentencing in a contempt case filed by Parklands residents.
His legal team informed the court that he was unwell and on medical leave. He contested the case, claiming he was unaware of the court date and, as a law-abiding citizen, would not have missed it knowingly.
The court ruled that Mosiria’s application challenging the contempt findings would be heard before any sentencing proceedings.
The court directed that Mosiria serve the applicants and that all parties reconvene on February 6, 2026, for further directions.
