Owino went missing on October 31 under troubling circumstances, sparking widespread concern and appeals from family members.

Owino’s final hours remain shrouded in confusion and unanswered questions, according to earlier reports shared by his spouse, Scholastica Achieng Odhiambo.

Scholastica disclosed that the teacher had been involved in a hit-and-run motorcycle accident near Kisumu Boys Gate, close to Aga Khan Hospital.

Despite sustaining a head injury, he was alert enough to be rushed to Kisumu County Referral Hospital (KCRH) by good Samaritans.

However, upon arrival at the hospital, the acquaintances who brought him in were reportedly involved in an exchange with medical personnel, each side giving conflicting accounts about what transpired at the nursing station.

With no identification and no phone on him, Owino could not be immediately processed, and those who accompanied him allegedly refused to provide their own details.

Moments later, the acquaintances contacted his family and were instructed to wait for them at the hospital.

But instead of staying put or taking Owino to Aga Khan Hospital as he had reportedly requested, they left KCRH with him at around 6:59 pm.

They later informed his brother that they had placed him in a Kibos Route 7-11 matatu and asked the conductor to drop him at Kamakaa Stage along Kibos Road so he could head home.

That was the last time anyone saw him alive.

Maricus Owino found dead

For days, his family clung to hope, scouring hospitals, police stations, and nearby neighborhoods.

Scholastica made an emotional public appeal, pleading with anyone who had seen him to come forward.

The story resonated widely, with many expressing concern over the chain of events that led to his disappearance.

The devastating confirmation came when his body was located at a Kisumu County morgue, with the bereaved wife sharing the news on Facebook.

How he ended up there, and what happened after he was placed in the matatu, remains unknown.

With Owino’s search coming to an end, authorities are expected to open an investigation to establish the circumstances of his death.

The family is calling for transparency and accountability, insisting that someone must explain how an injured man entrusted to strangers could vanish and later be found lifeless.

In another case of a missing teacher, the disappearance of the Munyuki PAG Secondary School principal has left the Lugari community in shock and uncertainty.

Simon Isiaho Shange was last seen heading to collect KCSE exam papers on November 3, only for his car to be found crashed at the notorious Muge black spot with no sign of him.

Authorities are investigating, and the community is urgently appealing for any information that could lead to his safe return.
