Why MP Nabii Nabwera wants to sue Kakamega bloggers

The MP, through the law firm of Danstan Omari Associates and Advocates, issued a strongly worded demand letter to Simon Asievela, Opunga George, and Amunga Peter, who reportedly run Malava Online, Kakamega Post, and other websites.

According to Omari, the three published inaccurate reports implying that the legislator was somehow involved in orchestrating the accident and the subsequent disappearance.

“On the November 3, 2025, following the unfortunate involvement of the principal of Munyuki High School, one Simon Isiaho Shange, in a road accident along the busy Eldoret-Malaba highway, you, through blogs posted in the ‘Malava Online’ and ‘Kakamega Post,’ among other blogging sites, made the incorrect, inaccurate, injurious, and uninformed publication that our client was not only involved in the orchestration of the said accident, but also oversaw the mysterious disappearance of the said principal after villagers and onlookers came to his rescue from the carnage,” the demand reads in part.

Speaking to the press at the Milimani Law Courts, Omari defended Nabwera, saying the MP is among the best-performing elected leaders.

“Our client, an exceptionally performing Member of Parliament for Lugari Constituency, is unequivocal that the statements by yourself are false, inaccurate, and ill-intended to taint his otherwise shining name and record in the constituency, through you and your political masterminds, in a bid to drag his name in political mud and gain mileage for your masterminds,” Omari said.

What Nabii Nabwera wants from Kakamega bloggers

The MP now says that should the three bloggers fail to apologise within 12 hours and issue a retraction of the defamatory publications, he will move to court to seek more than KSh 20 million in compensation for damages.

“We are under strict instructions that should you fail to offer an unequivocal apology in the same manner, vigour and verve with which you defamed our client, on all platforms upon which you publicised the said statements, we will make good the priceless dent caused to our client’s revered name, by compensating him a sum of KSh 20,000,000,” the demand read in part.

Omari also insisted that his client was a close friend of the missing principal.

“Our client, a close friend of the said principal until his mysterious missing, has ensured the equal distribution of constituency resources among his constituents and the schools and other social establishments therein, hence the unfoundedness of your blogs and statements not only befuddles him but also besmirches his outstanding reputation throughout the constituency and the country,” the letter further states.

Omari now wants the bloggers to pull down and erase from their blog sites and all other platforms the defamatory statements they published about his client.

“Take notice that should you fail to strictly comply with our client’s demands within the stipulated timelines, we shall, without delay, institute legal proceedings against you in order to restore our client’s tarnished reputation and allow him to seek lawful redress for the uninformed statements made against him,” the demand added.

Omari linked the smear campaign against Nabwera to the recent Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) grassroots elections, where the MP was elected as the Kakamega chairman.

“We know there is a lot of politics in this matter. Urged DCI to intensify search for Mwalimu. Nabwera was elected by all delegates in Kakamega. He ensures that all schools get qualified Constituency Development Funds (CDF) equally. My client’s reputation is beyond reproach. We are demanding these demands be complied with within 12 hours. Otherwise, on Monday we are moving to court to clear his name,” the lawyer insisted.

How Lugari principal met his end

Isiaho vanished early on Monday, November 3, while heading to collect the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination papers for his centre.

According to the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) Kakamega branch, Isiaho left home at around 5:30 a.m., stopped in Turbo to refuel, and continued his journey.

His car was later found wrecked at the infamous Muge black spot near Omega, close to the Lumakanda bus park on the Eldoret–Malaba Highway, but the driver was nowhere to be seen.

The body would later be discovered inside the Kipkaren River five days later, on November 8.
