Peter Kagoni, a hardworking man who was a driver and a kamagera, met his death on Thursday, November 6, in an accident no one would have predicted.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, his brother Henry Githuka explained that as a kamagera, he was tasked with offloading some ballast off the truck, and it was after alighting the vehicle to do so that tragedy hit.

“He wanted to offload some weight from the truck to meet the weighing bridge requirement. As a family, we are yet to understand how the accident happened because the truck’s back door fell on him and he died on the spot.

“The viral photo of him trapped by the door is the last moment of him. He died instantly. I do not want to see that photo,” he painfully said.

The chilling photo captured how Kagoni, who was dressed in a yellow and grey jumper paired with black trousers, was fatally knocked and trapped in the back of the truck, whereas the rest of his body was left suspended.

The accident happened in Mlolongo, near the weigh bridge.

“He was a hardworking, yet reserved man. It is so sad that he died,” he said, adding that seeing the viral photo of his brother’s death left him heartbroken.

Peter Kagoni’s brother raises questions

His brother also wondered how the container beneath the truck door remained down during Kagoni’s freak accident.

“We suspect that the door did not have enough hydraulic strength, and so after he opened it, it fell back, dropping on him as he was using the spade to offload the ballast,” he said.
