It all began when the 29-year-old, who had been feeling bored at home, decided to spend the afternoon at a popular entertainment joint in Githurai.

How John Andrian’s outing started

John told TUKO.co.ke that he checked into the establishment around mid-afternoon, a decision that would later leave him hospitalized, bruised, and searching for answers.

The sprawling spot has clubs both upstairs and downstairs, and he first took a glass of chang’aa before heading upstairs for a soda.

He says he deliberately avoided alcohol because he wanted to remain sober ahead of the 6:30 pm Manchester United versus Liverpool match.

“Upstairs, I joined a table occupied by six people; four men and two women. One of the men, seated next to me, occasionally asked me to watch his keg when he went to the washroom,” he started.

John Andrian lost memory

At some point, John stepped downstairs again for another glass of chang’aa, leaving his soda behind with the same man he trusted.

When he returned, his soda was almost empty. He drank what was left, ordered another one, and switched seats.

He recalls a woman inviting him to “take shots” and accompany her to a room, but he declined, saying the rooms were unhygienic.

Moments later, around 4:30 pm, his memory went completely blank. What happened over the next many hours remains a mystery.

John Andrian woke up on Thika Road

The next thing John remembers is regaining consciousness on Monday morning, March 18, near Plainsview Hospital in Ruiru, just across from a Shell petrol station.

It was around 7:30 am., and he was lying unconscious in the middle of the Thika Superhighway. Good Samaritans had already dragged him off the road, believing he was dead.

“I woke up from a coma only to find myself bleeding from head to toe,” he says. “I had a deep cut on my face, on my lower lip, bruises on my hand, and a very deep cut on my right leg. I couldn’t walk.”

Disoriented and in pain, he struggled to answer basic questions about his identity. A friend was eventually contacted, who then alerted his family.

John was rushed to Plainsview Hospital but was later transferred due to anticipated high medical bills.

John Andrian has no recollection

Medical scans showed no internal organ damage, so he was moved once more to a nearby private hospital.

There, he was taken to theatre and stitched in multiple places; the head, lower lip, and especially the right leg, where a deep gash had nearly severed bone.

To this day, John says he has no memory of what happened between 4:30 pm on Sunday and the moment he woke up on the highway.

He believes his drink may have been spiked, but the circumstances of his assault remain unknown.

What he does know is that he is lucky to be alive. “Those who found me thought I wouldn’t make it,” he says quietly. “I survived by God’s grace.”
