Raila Odinga died on October 15 in India, days before he was to fly to Dubai before returning home.
He had gone to seek medical attention for a brain clot after President William Ruto, concerned about his health, hired a private helicopter to fly him to India.
His wife, Ida, has since been hosting guests in her Opoda Farm, showing up to console her after losing her husband of over five decades.
TUKO.co.ke featured five photos showing how Raila and Ida depicted a beautiful love story that is not only an inspiration but is worth celebrating.
1. They were each other’s support system
Raila was considered one of the busiest political figures in the country, whose diary involved a lot of movements.
However, despite the late politician’s busy schedule, he and his wife attended most events together and always sat side by side.
Raila also made it a point to acknowledge his wife, Ida’s, presence wherever they were out in a function together.

2. Their love story began years ago
Raila and Ida’s story began even before he was arrested and jailed for his activism and political ambition.
One of his oldest friends, S.K. Macharia, recently shared how he helped Ida when she lost her job after Raila was jailed.
He further revealed that Jaramogi Oginga tasked him to take care of his two sons on the last day he left Nairobi.
From Raila’s throwback photos, one can see how the couple not only loved each other but also complemented each other.

3. He was romantic
Raila, from time to time, delighted Kenyans as he showed public display of affection towards his wife.
During the 2022 presidential campaign for Azimio La Umoja, where he was the flagbearer, he kissed his wife on the cheek while introducing her.
Kenyans who were at the stadium went into a frenzy as they cheered the couple on stage. Raila then took over in his bid to sell his presidency to his staunch followers.

They have always been in national events together since he started serving as Lang’ata Member of Parliament.
As the former prime minister’s wife, Ida showed up for different events to support the government of the day and her husband’s role.
There were instances when they would be accompanied by their children, who would sit behind them.

5. They were always a smiling couple
Ida knew how to bring out Raila’s smile in all the fun and random photos that they took together.
While people referred to the opposition leader as Baba, Kenyans referred to Ida as Min Piny (Dholuo for mother of the nation), titles that fit them both perfectly.

She mourned Raila not only as a partner but someone with whom she shared so much joy and life experiences.
Ida also asked those who did not like her husband to forgive him, and explained that Raila never held grudges.
