Nairobi – President William Ruto has joined Kenyans in mourning renowned gospel musician Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, fondly known as Betty Bayo.

Bayo died on Monday, November 10, after a lengthy battle with blood cancer while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.
Which disease was Betty Bayo suffering from?
According to the family, Bayo had been admitted at KNH with advanced-stage blood cancer (leukaemia).
President Ruto shared a touching tribute, remembering Bayo’s powerful voice, unwavering faith, and the impact she made on many Kenyans.
In his condolence message, the head of state singled out Bayo’s “11th Hour”, which he said was a powerful anthem of divine intervention that inspired many faithful.

The president noted that through her 15 years of gospel music, Bayo lifted the spirit of many by delivering messages of hope and inspiration.
“For over 15 years, Betty lifted spirits through music that spoke of resilience, renewal and steadfast faith in the face of life’s challenges. Her message was consistent, clear, and heartfelt: never give up, no matter the hour, no matter the storm. Her voice may have fallen silent, but her ministry lives on in every heart she touched, every soul she uplifted, and every life she helped steady in difficult moments. Rest in Peace, Betty Bayo,” the president noted.

Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua also issued a statement mourning Bayo, describing her as a talented artist.
“The news of Gospel Musician Betty Bayo’s passing on is truly heartbreaking and devastating to me and the whole nation. Her remarkable talent and contribution through beautifully crafted lyrics and charity work touched many souls and transformed lives.
“I join our fellow countrymen and women, as well as the entire creative industry, in mourning the loss of a legend. My heart goes out to her family during this difficult time; please accept my deepest condolences,” Gachagua mourned.

Meanwhile, preacher Pastor Kanyari fought back tears after learning about his ex-wife Betty Bayo’s death.
Pastor Kanyari was with Betty Bayo’s husband, Hiram Gitau, and they were both emotional.
The preacher sat next to Gitau as the doctors gave the briefing about the musician’s untimely passing.
Kanyari was seen holding his head in anguish, and at one point, looked like he was wiping his eyes.
