Addressing journalists on Sunday, November 9, the teachers, led by Kenya Secondary School Heads’ Association (KSSHA) Kakamega branch chairperson Amkoa Michal Ochiel, said Isiaho’s murder had left them traumatised and worried.
Ochiel revealed that most teachers in Lugari sub-county were facing threats from politicians pursuing personal interests, hence the need to protect them.
“The government must give us guns because our lives, as school heads, are at risk. Politicians and other education stakeholders are baying for our blood,” said the KSSHA Kakamega boss.
Kakamega teachers threaten to occupy DCI offices
Meanwhile, the teachers’ union officials have given the police up to Friday, November 14, to arrest those behind the head teacher’s murder; failure to do so will result in protests.
The officials said they will occupy police stations until those involved in Isiaho’s murder are arrested and prosecuted.
“We are going to occupy all police stations and the DCI offices in Lugari if there are no arrests by Friday. We won’t leave it until justice is served to the family of Simon Isiaho,” said the KSSHA Kakamega chairperson.
Similar sentiments were shared by the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kakamega East branch executive secretary Patrick Chungani.

Chungani said that anyone, including politicians, who authorities will find connected to the murder of the Munyuki Secondary School principal should face the full force of the law so that they serve as an example to others involved in criminal activities.
He said that as KNUT, they will not sit and watch as teachers are killed in cold blood.
“As KNUT, we want relevant authorities to make sure everyone who is found guilty of the murder of Principal Simon Isiaho is arrested and prosecuted,” Chungani said.
Are Lugari teachers being intimidated?
The KNUT official further claimed politicians have been intimidating teachers in Lugari for a long time, some of them have been demanding a share of the National Government Development Fund (NG-CDF) channelled to schools.
He revealed that some teachers have been transferred for refusing to give in to the politicians’ demands.
Chungani challenged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to protect teachers against such a hostile environment.
