Opiyo Wandayi asks ODM to honour Raila by supporting Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid: “Don’t deviate”
“While the ODM Party prides itself on progressive politics and bears an eternal optimism for consensus and coalition-building towards a better Kenya, we, the youth of ODM, must state categorically: we shall not be part of any formation that includes Rigathi Gachagua as a principal. However progressive a leader may appear, whether within our ranks in ODM or without, they will not convince us to work with Rigathi Gachagua,” Kasmuel said.
The youthful politician said they will put more pressure on ODM leaders who are sympathetic to Gachagua’s politics.
Should ODM join forces with Gachagua’s DCP party?
According to Kasmuel, there is nothing ODM or the country will benefit from the former deputy president’s brand of politics.
“We will continue to put pressure on those among us who are sympathetic to his politics, attempting to coax us by claiming it is “strategic” not to provoke him. Chungwa has been Chungwa without their support, and will continue to grow even greater without that brand of retrogressive politics. There is nothing for ODM, or our country, to gain from such a man. We disagree in toto with his political ideas and persuasions. His ideas are outdated and belong to a feudal world that no longer exists,” he stated.
Kasmuel further insisted that the ODM party remain in the broad-based arrangement, arguing that it is the political formation that the late former prime minister Raila Odinga left his supporters.
“As one who was the face of the movement and the most prominent Gen-Z in ODM, I speak for all of us when I say: we reject Rigathi Gachagua. We shall remain within the Broad-Based Arrangement where H.E. Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, C.G.H., left us, and we shall push for all reforms necessary for a more prosperous Kenya within this framework,” he said.
