The incident, which was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media, shows passengers shouting at the officer and demanding that he leave the matatu.

The officer had taken the co-driver’s seat in an attempt to impound the matatu over a probable offence. However, the passengers were having none of it.

Voices could be heard demanding he get off the vehicle, with some passengers insisting they would not allow him to take any bribe money from the matatu crew.

Did Nairobi kanjo defend himself?

The officer tried to defend himself by addressing the small crowd and urging them to stay calm, but his efforts were in vain.

Frustrated, the kanjo resorted to making a radio call to his colleagues, but this too did little to calm the situation.

The passengers were resolute and declared that they would not allow the officer or his colleagues to take the matatu.

“Nothing will happen even if you call for backup. Just get off this vehicle before we take you out ourselves. This is someone else’s vehicle, so get out,” others shouted.
