Betty passed away on Monday, November 10, at Kenyatta National Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.
Did Pastor Kanyari know about Betty’s illness?
During a live session on Wednesday, November 12, Kanyari revealed that he was never contacted by those close to Betty regarding her health.
He dismissed claims made by gospel singer Ngaruiya Junior that they had attempted to inform him in her final days.
Kanyari said he was only told about Betty’s passing, which left him emotionally overwhelmed.
He emphasised that had he been notified earlier, he would have fought tirelessly for her treatment.
“I am not one to neglect women. Nobody looked for me. Betty was ill for two weeks and I was not told. If I was told, I would have fought day and night for her. I was just told that she has passed away, and that is the reason why I am so emotional,” he said.
He criticised those close to Betty for allegedly failing to monitor her health closely.
“Cancer is not an illness that you just have for one day; it is an illness that often stays with a person for a long time. There is a big problem because there is no way someone can be diagnosed with cancer and then die after two weeks,” Kanyari said.

The preacher added that, if he had known about the illness earlier, he could have taken extensive measures to ensure she received treatment, even abroad.
“If I had been made aware, I would have done my best with her, even taken her to India. Cancer does not kill you in two weeks, meaning she had battled the illness for a long time. Those close to her needed to monitor her keenly and take her for a checkup, even abroad. If they needed us to raise funds, we could have, and maybe we would not be here today,” he explained.
