Solace Ojotule immediately showed her around the foreign country, as they spent quality time together.

Her mother’s main intention was to attend church, a reflection of her strong belief in her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

However, Solace noted that her mum was disappointed by the services, often comparing them to African church services.

“How do I explain to my mum that you don’t have to shout and kabash before God hears you?” her caption read.

She shared an album of photos narrating what she called the biggest mistake she made, taking her mum to several churches around the UK.

Why wasn’t Solace’s mum full?

According to Solace, they visited two churches, and after each service, her mum whispered that she was not satisfied, that her “stomach was not full.”

“At first I thought she meant food. I said, ‘Mummy, they gave us tea and biscuits after service. It’s not meant to satisfy you.’ Then she said it wasn’t about food. She said, ‘I mean my spirit is still hungry,’” Solace narrated.

According to her mum, the prayers were “too light,” claiming that nobody was really praying and that “they are not even opening their mouths.”

She criticised the congregants for not praying in the Holy Ghost, for the calm prayers and gentle music, and even said the preachers delivered sermons as though the congregants were children.

Solace’s mum insisted the prayers lacked “fire” and “warfare,” which she was accustomed to back home.

“I had to explain, ‘Mummy, here nobody is praying against kidnapping, no one is asking God for electricity or water and other basic amenities. Food is cheap. The citizens get almost free education plus free healthcare. Just pay your taxes and you are good. Nobody’s neighbour is plotting their downfall. They are just thanking God for sunshine,’” Solace explained.

Her mum, however, looked forward to going back to her home church where she felt spiritually satisfied.

Solace advised her mum to attend a Nigerian church service in the morning and the UK service in the afternoon to avoid cutting short her stay.

Netizens side with Solace’s mum over UK churches

Solace seemed to be on her own, as most social media users sided with her mum and shared their opinions in the comment section.

mrsabob:

“Dear author, with all due respect, you missed what fellowship and prayer are about. Life is more than basic amenities. I can’t say more than this.”

dedelins_wig_empire_n_essence:

“She’s not full, not because she wants to ask her Maker for things. That’s not the only reason we pray. Most times it’s about the depth of intimacy. When you feel shallow, you will know.”

queenvictoria_nokuwela:

“Mummy is right. And prayers don’t have to be about kidnapping for them to be hot. There are so many things to pray for, especially kingdom increase.”

gbengaartsmith:

“Mummy is spiritually sensitive. That’s a woman whose heart is definitely attuned to the frequency of heaven. She knows lukewarmness when she senses it. I don’t know your mum personally, but it’s probably not the ‘hunger’ for prayers against spiritual attacks she has, but the ‘effectual, fervent prayers of the righteous.’ Bless you, mummy.”

soteria:

“I’m with mum on this. And it’s not even about the ‘needs-focused’ prayers or ‘enemy die.’ Many churches in the UK are just cold. Like many people have said, prayer is much more than needs. Jesus spent all night in prayers, do you think he was praying against kidnappers? Absolutely not! There’s just such a dire need for revival in the UK, a return to the first love.

And the idea that the system has fulfilled all the needs people pray for is one of the reasons why the UK church is like this. There is so much comfort, and the devil has lulled them into a false sense of security such that they no longer see their need for God. God has sent many of us from Africa to spark that fire of revival again.”

Kenyan lady kicked out of prayer WhatsApp group

In another story, a Kenyan lady was kicked out of a WhatsApp prayer group after a leaked voice note exposed her.

Many who watched the video revealing the group chats believed the members acted too harshly.

Some argued that not all members were spiritual, as they hurried to remove the “sinner” from the group instead of forgiving and restoring her.
