The party, which was founded by the late political icon Raila Odinga, turned 20, and the members are celebrating.
Initially, when the party turned 20, Raila was sick, and they postponed the celebrations to a later date.
Speculations began about the former prime minister’s health when the party failed to celebrate the milestone.
A month after his demise, the party planned a three-day celebration from November 14-16.
During day two of the celebrations, a montage was played, seemingly ‘welcoming’ the late politician to the event.
Did Winnie Odinga break down?
If you have watched events or rallies Raila attended, you would notice that there was always an anticipatory mood when he was welcomed to the stage.
His supporters would burst out in cheers, and he would also showcase his energetic dance moves.
The montage covered that. You can watch it here:
While the video and pictures of Raila were being played on the screen, Winnie could not control her tears.
She broke down, and CS Hassan Joho was seen consoling her and rubbing her back as she bent down to wipe her tears.
Watch the clip:
Winnie spoke about the emotional moment when she was called to the dais to speak.
The MP admitted that it was an emotional moment, but the tears were not from pain; they were a sort of release.
She said that the meeting in Mombasa had given her peace a month after her father’s death.
