Famed for her hit song 11th Hour and other fan-favourites, Betty shared close bonds with many gospel artistes, but one of her strongest friendships was with fellow singer Shiru wa GP.
On Sunday, November 16, hundreds gathered at CFF Church for Betty’s memorial service ahead of her burial on Thursday, November 20.
How did Shiru wa GP mourn Betty Bayo?
Shiru, who had been with Betty in her final days, delivered a tribute that left many in tears both at the church and on social media.
She recalled their close bond and future plans, including Betty’s frequent mentions of relocating to the United States.
“Betty was more than a friend. Her presence in my life was a constant source of joy and laughter. My heart is hurt, wounded and bleeding. Since you left to be with the Lord, I have been having sleepless nights, food has become tasteless, and I do not know how to resume my daily schedule. Your death has left me in disbelief, and I ask God many questions. I never thought or imagined that one day you would go on a journey of no return. Your death was so soon, my friend. How do I tell you rest in peace? It is not easy for me to say these words.”
Shiru also highlighted Betty’s strength, recalling how she fought on despite emotional and financial challenges:
“For three weeks, we were in and out of hospitals, but I did not see any indication you would leave us so soon. The only words I will always remember are that you kept telling me we should spend more time together because we would miss each other when you relocate to the US. I have known you as a friend, as a fighter. Why did you give up? Why did you close your eyes permanently?”

Shiru further pledged to support Betty’s children, Sky Victor and Danivictor, despite the big gap left by their mother’s passing.
Videos she shared on social media showed that her kids shared a strong bond with Betty and her kids, even going on adventures together.
“I carry the burden of your kids. I might not be able to fill the gap completely, and I cannot step into your shoes, but I promise to do my best for them. I will try to check on them through their father and their grandmother.”
She concluded her tribute tearfully, expressing regret for not having spent more time with Betty before her passing.
