When Jamie boarded her flight to Dubai on November 16, 2022, she carried more than her luggage, she carried complete trust in the one person she knew in the city.

That trust, she now says, shattered the moment she walked out of the arrivals gate and realised her best friend of many years was nowhere to be seen.
Why Jamie trusted Dubai friend
In a post on TikTok, she disclosed that the two had known each other since high school, which made her believe they were meant to watch over each other’s backs.

Their friendship had spanned distance, adulthood, and the dreams Jamie carried when she decided to move to Dubai for a fresh start.
Because she trusted her friend so deeply, she even sent her accommodation money in advance, believing she would secure a place for her before arrival.
“We were communicating the entire time while I was boarding,” Jamie recalls. “She convinced me she’d be at the airport earlier than me.”

But when the plane landed and Jamie scanned the crowd of waiting faces, her friend was not among them.
Minutes stretched into hours. Calls went straight to voicemail. And as the reality sank in, fear crept closer, this was her first time in Dubai, and she had no one else to turn to.
“I waited for seven hours,” she says. “Her phone was off the whole time. She was the only person I knew in Dubai.”
With nowhere to go and no familiar face in sight, Jamie felt stranded in a foreign city, exhausted and overwhelmed.
Who rescued Jamie from the airport?
Yet, in that vulnerable moment, help came from where she least expected it, a stranger who noticed her distress stepped in, offering guidance and support until she found her footing.
“That stranger helped me out, and now the rest is history,” she says with a mix of relief and lingering disbelief. “Up to now, her phone is still off.”
Today, Jamie is settled in Dubai, but the memory of that night clings to her, a painful reminder that sometimes the people we trust most can become the ones who hurt us the deepest.
Yet it is also a story of human kindness, and how even in the loneliest moments, compassion from a complete stranger can light the way.
Kenyan woman depressed in Dubai
