Josh Babarinde, the MP for Eastbourne, asked his partner, Connor, to marry him.

How did Babarinde plan proposal in parliament?

Taking to Facebook to share the news on Monday, November 17, Babarinde said the proposal happened after official business had finished in the House of Commons in the United Kingdom.

“With the Speaker’s permission last week, I asked a very special question in the House of Commons after official business had finished for the day – not to the Prime Minister, but to my partner Connor (on his birthday!) …and his answer was YES!”

According to the BBC, the Liberal Democrat, who has represented his hometown in East Sussex since July last year, said he planned the surprise proposal after securing permission from the Commons’ Speaker.

Babarinde stated he and Connor would always remember their engagement day.

He said:

“A big thank you to Mr Speaker and the team in parliament for helping to make this happen, together with fellow Sussex [Chichester] MP Jess Brown-Fuller, who helped me plan an unforgettable marriage proposal!”
