A section of bloggers made claims, finding faults in Betty’s relationship with Tash, leaving many social media users shocked and surprised.
In response to the online gossip, Tash chose to remain silent, opting to stay clear of the rumours as he mourned his beloved wife.
However, Tash’s close friend Shelmith Wanjiku Macharia took to her social media accounts to defend him. She shared their long-standing relationship, having known Tash since childhood, and recalled how he had always taken care of her and her siblings.

“Today, I have decided to speak on behalf of my friend, Hiram Gitau, known to many as Tash. We often hear about recognising people’s true worth, but recognition comes only when we see, feel, and appreciate them deeply. I am doing this for Tash because I know him personally, not just as a friend, but as someone whose character, kindness, and strength have profoundly impacted my life,” she said.

What did Tash’s friend say about his marriage to Betty?
Wanjiku noted that Tash had been a devoted husband to the late Betty and a loving father to his stepchildren, Sky and Dani.
“You are not only her husband through Kikuyu traditional marriage, where dowry was paid, but you are also legally married to her under civil law. This dual recognition affirms your rightful place as husband and father,” she said.
Tash’s best friend emphasised that he had shown unwavering commitment, love, and care for the children, and all of this made him their rightful father figure, regardless of biological ties.
“Under Kenyan law and our cultural practices, when a man marries a woman traditionally and legally, he assumes parental rights and responsibilities for the children in that family,” she added.
She further shared that her friend had made the late singer happy, which was the only thing that truly mattered.
Wanjiku mentioned that while many underestimated the widower, she knew the real Tash someone who always did what was right, without chasing drama or clout.
“I know you’ve been facing bullying and unfair attacks on social media lately. Love should never be painful. It’s not your fault you loved Betty. No one deserves to be hurt, especially not through cyberbullying. The hate you face online is unfair and undeserved,” stated Wanjiku.
She advised Tash not to let the online noise shake his spirit or define who he is. Boldly, Wanjiku declared her support for the grieving man, expressing her readiness to protect him and stand by him through any storm.
