The Thursday, November 20, mass at Ndumberi Stadium was filled with tears, as loved ones broke down.
Among the mourners was the Tanzanian songstress Rose Muhando, who shared how Betty had helped her.
Where is Betty Bayo’s mother?
“When I was at Pastor James Ng’ang’a’s church while sick, Betty came for me and took me to the hospital. When you see me healthy, Betty played a big role in it,” said an emotional Rose before breaking into song.
Bishop Michael Wanderi, who had been Betty’s preacher, noted her mother’s absence but mentioned that they had connected online.
“We sat with her via the internet,” he said, referring to video conferencing.
He invited Tash’s mother to speak, and a friend read her tribute.
“When you joined our family, you came with humility, respect, and warmth.
Our relationship has always been good, and you became my daughter, and your brilliant children became my grandchildren.”
The bishop then asked for Joyce’s tribute to be played.
What did Betty Bayo’s mum, brothers say?
“No mother should have to go through this experience,” she said.
In her tribute, Joyce recalled Betty as a devout believer from a young age, describing their close bond as Betty matured.
“Being my lastborn, my memories are still fresh. Betty loved God from a young age and would lead others in fasting and night vigils since age 12.”
Joyce reflected on Betty’s journey from journalism to gospel music in 2009, emphasising how Betty had always supported her, both emotionally and financially.
Joyce also shared how Betty had helped her relocate from the village to a comfortable home in Runda Estate and later encouraged her to move to America.
However, the reason behind her absence from the burial was not made public.
Betty’s brothers, Moses Kariuki, John Ngugi, Charles Gatimu, Nathan Kamau, Peter Njuguna, and Edward Kang’ethe, also paid a heartfelt tribute, describing her as a source of joy who united the family.
“We hoped you would emerge victorious from the health challenges, but you took your last bow. Death seemed impossible to us. But it has dawned on us that you are gone. We love and miss you so much. Till we meet again.”
