The detective and social media influencer has been trending, with some accusing her of ‘mistreating’ mourners, forcing her to clear the air.

What happened between Wanja and Ben Githae?

In a viral video, the no-nonsense Wanja was seen asking mourners who had occupied family seats to move, but that did not go well with a section of netizens and a few gospel singers.

She lashed out at Kikuyu gospel singer Ben Githae, accusing him of being part of the ‘stubborn’ mourners who criticised her for being tough at Bayo’s funeral.

“Ben Githae, next time, before you attack and donate your minutes, you get your facts right, before we even told you what we wanted, you were there mentioning names to push a narrative. I don’t worship small gods, and by the way, if the brothers had not gotten the seats where they sat, we were already bringing those chairs there; adding chairs in front would not have harmed anyone! Family comes first no matter who, no matter what…. don’t live a life of assumptions; the guilty ones are always afraid,” she said.

Wanja bashed mourners who took over the family seats, explaining how Bayo’s close relatives, including her brothers, had nowhere to sit.

She termed their behaviour as disrespectful, claiming some of the mourners insulted her and her team.

“It was disrespectful… All these people I was talking to were looking for seats for brothers, and they were being bashed away. They came to tell me their predicaments we get a solution, yaani your sister is dead in a coffin and you have no seat? The fact is, Cucu Betty and the brothers of the deceased and their spouses and children had no seats. The very people carrying the deepest pain were left standing, pushed behind, ignored. Ushers are always prepared for eventualities people coming late, seats filling up, changes in protocol. So when all the seats filled up and the brothers remained standing, the ushers had reserved some seats outside and they came up with a quick, respectful solution which needed backup,” she wrote.

“Who did you come to grieve with if not the family? If the immediate family has nowhere to sit, you are not mourning; you are showboating. You can brew your own tea by lying to bloggers…From the experience of different events as such, I will tell you the mistakes that mourners do… Thanks to my team that records my movements, coz I know what others are up to after… To Carol Ushers & Milly Chebby, you did a good job, to those who defied your orders, making your work difficult, leave them; vengeance is God’s,” she wrote.

Moments before Bayo’s burial, mourners were asked to remain at Ndumberi Stadium and follow the burial proceedings on the screen. The MC announced that only 50 people would be allowed at the burial site, insisting that the rest of the mourners remain at the stadium, but Cukura didn’t adhere to the rules.
