Nairobi: The death of former prime minister Raila Odinga’s sister, Beryl Achieng, has plunged the country into mourning once again, with several leaders visiting Lee Funeral Home to view her body and console the family.

Achieng, who had been battling an undisclosed illness, passed away on Tuesday, November 25.

A teacher and lawyer by profession, she kept her life private despite belonging to one of Kenya’s most politically influential families.

Her passing occurred just weeks after Raila’s death, compounding the family’s grief.

She was unable to attend her brother’s funeral due to illness. Achieng was the mother of three children—Ami Auma, Chizi, and Taurai.

Which leaders went to view Beryl Achieng’s body?

Among the leaders present at Lee Funeral Home were Nairobi senator and ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna, Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Mabona, and others.

Family members in attendance included Kisumu woman representative Ruth Odinga, her sister Menwa Akinyi, and their nieces, among them EALA MP Winnie Odinga.

Ruth Odinga expressed gratitude to friends and colleagues who went to commiserate with the family during this difficult time.

“We are currently at the Lee Funeral Home, where the remains of our dear sister, Beryl Achieng Odinga, are being preserved. Thank you to the friends and colleagues who have come to commiserate with us during this difficult time,” she said.

Ruto recounted how she made her mark as an exceptional urban planner in Zimbabwe, where her expertise and commitment contributed to transformative urban development.

The president conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the family of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, praying for God’s grace, comfort, and compassion during this difficult time.
